Surrey Artists Open Studios 2009
This summer, Mole Valley Artists will once again open their studios for the viewing pleasure of all during the Surrey Artists’ Open Studio fortnight, Saturday 6th - Sunday 21st June 2009. During this fortnight, the general public have the rare opportunity to meet local artists to Mole Valley, learn about individual artists’ practice, see hundreds of original art works and enjoy purchasing artworks for very reasonable prices. Free of charge, see artists working in every genre from photography, textiles, glass, casting, ceramics and contemporary painting to sculpture.
Although the artwork will be on sale, the majority of people visiting the artists studios, attend to enjoy the surrounding local area and view (not neccesarily purchase) the artwork. There will be something to delight everyone!
For full details and directions check out www.surreyopenstudios.org.uk or pick up the free colour brochure from your local library. Generously supported by Mole Valley Arts Forum and Dorking Decorative & Fine Arts Society.
Planning your visits
Studios are spread throughout Surrey and are open 11am - 5pm unless otherwise stated, with late night openings on Thursdays 6pm - 8.30pm. See the map showing all the location of all the artists. Alternatively, visit the Surrey Open Studios website for more details. You can search the site by the name of an artist or group, by the medium they work in. You can find out which studios are open any particular date.
To get a taster of the work on view, some boroughs offer a preview exhibition. This is where the artists group together, and display either an example of each of their work, or a presentation of their art practice.
Some artists are offering workshops for the public. These are very popular and participants gain much enjoyment from them. Do be sure to book your places.
